"Pin the ? on the ?" - Party Game Fits Many Themes!

Have you ever played "Pin the Tail on the Donkey?"  Well, I've adapted that game to fit my son's birthday party theme several times.  Check these out and then think of ways you, too, can recreate this past time favorite!

John 3:16 Spells Out Valentine

I am surprised to hear how many people have not heard about this yet.  Did you know that the Bible verse John 3:16 spells out V-A-L-E-N-T-I-N-E?  I think I came across this exciting fact a couple of years back, and now I think about it every Feb. 14th.  So, here is my version of it using a heart shape I found on the Internet.  I made these into magnets for some kids at church to take home.  Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Cat or Dog Party Theme Idea

For one of my son's birthday parties, we had a Scooby Doo theme so I bought plastic dog bowls for the cake and ice cream.  I washed them really well and painted on their names and a few dog bones.  The kids really loved it, and when the party was ending, I rinsed them out and let them take them home.  My son used his bowl for everything from cereal to snacks after the party.  This idea would work for any dog or cat themed party.

Scooby Doo, Where Are You?

My son used to love Scooby Doo and wanted a Scooby Doo bedroom.  We had the quilt and valance, but I thought it needed more so I painted Scooby on one of his walls.  Unfortunately, he outgrew the cartoon and Scooby had to go bye-bye, but not before taking some pictures!  It's really not that hard to do.  I did it freehand by looking at a picture in one of his books, but you could always project it on the wall and trace it.  Paint is so easy to replace when they outgrow the theme. :)

DIY - Scarf From Old T-Shirt

I've seen these all over the internet and finally got around to doing one myself.  I followed the instructions from Tidy Mom.  Most of the instructions I've read say to stretch it out after you cut it, but I think if you don't stretch it out, it makes it look fuller.  I added a flower pin that I purchased from a holiday craft shop.  I think I might add some strips from a black t-shirt and make it black and white.  The cool thing is that you don't have to permanently attach them together so you can add a splash of color here or there and then change it up.  I could add red and green to it for Christmas or do a black, orange and purple one for Halloween and so on.

Gingerbread Garland

Here is another Christmas craft idea.  I painted wooden spools and circles red and white to look like mints.  I painted wooden stars red, white, and green, and I painted wooden boys and girls to look like gingerbread cookies.  I hot glued them all onto twine and then tied on red and green buttons with red and green embroidery thread.

Christmas Crafts - Pins, Magnets, and Ornaments

Here are more Christmas craft ideas.  I used scrap fabric, scrap ribbon, scrap yarn, popsicle sticks, wooden spoons from ice cream cups, and miscellaneous buttons in some of them (reduce, reuse, recycle!).  The measuring spoons I bought at the dollar store, but you could also find used ones and add another recycling element to them.  Enjoy!

 

Santa Treat Bottles

Here is a Santa treat bottle I made from a recycled yogurt smoothie bottle.  I saved enough bottles to make one for all of my son's preschool class at the time.  I filled them with Hershey kisses.

I started as a yogurt smoothie,
I was drank, washed, and made a cutie!

Now I'm all dressed and ready for treats,
Chocolates, caramels, and lots of good sweets!
